"I've Been Down So *** Damn Long.....

...That it looks like up to me!" Thanks to Jim Morrison for that quote. I'm posting some hand histories here, and these are ugly. I honestly did not think at all during these hands. Sometimes I have a tendency to push my weight around at the table and it gets me in trouble when I don't stop and think about what I'm doing.

Hand #1 5th hand played and literally no reads on any players.

Not a bad play here. I got someone 3 betting me. Fine. I'll call and see the flop.

HERO calls $0.60
*** FLOP *** [3d 9s 9h]
HERO bets $2
ACE071983 raises to $4
HERO calls $2

Is a check better here since I was 3 bet? The min raise put up a red flag to me that was ignored.

*** TURN *** [3d 9s 9h] [Qc]
HERO checks
ACE071983 bets $4
HERO raises to $8

At this point I know I'm beat and can't help myself. This is stupid. I know it. Beat me up for it anyway. I deserve it.
ACE071983 calls $3.90, and is all in
HERO shows [Jh Jc]
ACE071983 shows [Ad Ac]

Hand #2 Another min raise on the turn and over valuing TPTK equals the same result.

HERO shows [Qs Ah] (a pair of Queens)
clodoc1 shows [Qc Qh] (three of a kind, Queens)

Hand #3 I made a play on the flop that usually works vs. min bets. But, when he plays back I know I'm beat. Why did I keep playing this hand? Some form of tilt, and again, not thinking clearly. He is telling me he's in love with his hand. Just LAY IT DOWN!!!!!

Now, my whole session wasn't bad. I actually ended up winner for the night. I did settle down and trapped some players to get some nice scores on another table that I may post, but this blog isn't to simply brag. I want to improve. These were glaring mistakes I made last night. I may find some from last night where I won medium pots to see if I lost some value.
Good luck on the felt........

In hand #1, let's forget the fact that we KNOW he has Aces. You were 3 bet preflop. This usually indicates a big pair. You also have to consider AK, because many players re-raise with AK to isolate the raiser. The flop brings a pair of nines, but you can be pretty sure he doesn't have a nine because he 3 bet you. If he has a big PP, you have 2 outs, so now the question in my mind is does he have that big pair or AK? You bet out and got raised. And not only that, you got min-raised, which usually indicates strength. At this point, I would have to sigh and muck my Jacks because he just told me he doesn't have AK.

In hand #2, with a limper, a min-raise, and a caller, I don't mind the call from the BB (remember I play full ring though). The flop gives you TPTK and I really like your pot sized bet, especially with that diamond draw out there. You narrow it down to heads up, so that's good. At this point, I would be leaning towards the flush draw, but possibly JT for the OESD. I'm discounting the possibility of him flopping two pair because he did raise preflop with a caller in front of him, although he might have a Q with a weaker kicker. The turn makes the straight, but I still like your lead out bet here. Checking is not an option. You got raised, and again, it's a min-raise. Given the action preflop, JT is a very realistic hand for him to have and be min-raising with. I can't see him raising with a weaker Q. To this point, you've played the hand pretty much the same way I would - calling preflop then value betting your way to a showdown. But, unless I have a great read that let's me know this guy is capable of representing that straight without it, I don't see much I can beat or even catch up to here. That min-raise would also make me think about a set. His actions in the hand make it a possibility, but if so, he played the flop badly with the draws that were out there. But set or straight are the same - you have to think he has one or the other and you're drawing dead. One of the biggest adjustments I've made to my game is letting go of TPTK in this type of situation. It's also been one of the hardest adjustments.
